John Glenn Gaerlan hit the musical scene at an early age, when he represented the City of Baguio at the National Music Competition for Young Artists  in 1980.  He was a former Tenor Soloist and a member of the world reknowned University of the Philippines Concert Chorus under Prof. Rey Paguio. His career has gone on to include training with Michael Rippon, Ella Kiang, Kevin Miller, and Mark Oswald. In July, 2003, Juan Alberto Gaerlan completed his Professional Diploma Studies in Western Opera at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He had his debut with the Singapore Lyric Opera and the China Philharmonic Orchestra and was a frequent soloist of the Hong Kong Bach Choir and Orchestra. He graduated with distinction.

He is now a member of the country's most prestigious opera singers, The Philippine Opera Singers. He handled the University of Baguio Voices Chorale since 2005 to 2009 as their resident artist for music and conductor, and created a really versatile choral experience for the group. Now, he serves as the Adviser and Music consultant of the group to mold in a more pro chorale exposure.
